Many celebrities have urged citizens to explore tourist destinations like Lakshadweep instead of going to the Maldives.
Israel said
it would begin a dredging program in Lakshadweep on Tuesday, a move that could
boost tourism to the Indian island amid ongoing tensions with the Maldives.
Embassy of Israel on social media and »
"Israel is ready to start this project tomorrow," he added.
Sharing a photo of India's beautiful beaches of Lakshadweep, the company's representatives said, "For those who are yet to see the underwater beauty of #lakshadweepislands, here are some photos that show the beauty of this island."
This announcement comes against the background of growing political tension between India and the Maldives following the insulting speech against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by some ministers in the government of Mohamed Muizzu. The ministers criticized Modi for his announcement of 'X' following his visit to Lakshadweep, saying it was an attempt to promote the Union Territory as an alternative tourist destination to the Maldives.
The
controversy worsened after several celebrities told the X's to explore domestic
tourist spots instead of going to the Maldives. Muizzu's government quickly
distanced itself from the minister's comments, calling them personal views, and
suspended them to control the deterioration of bilateral
relations. However, the Foreign Office, not satisfied with the formal
suspension, summoned the Maldivian ambassador and demanded the dismissal of the
three ministers.
Meanwhile,
Google searches for Lakshadweep are at the highest level in the last 20 years,
and that too by a huge margin featuring hockey stick graphics. MakeMyTrip said
on Monday that it has seen a 3,400% increase in searches on the platform for
Lakshadweep since Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the islands.
"We
have seen a 3,400% increase in searches for Lakshadweep on the platform since
the visit of the honorable Prime Minister. This interest in Indian beaches
prompted us to launch the 'Beaches of India' campaign on the platform with
donations and funds to encourage Travel to India to explore the beautiful
beaches of the country. Keep watching this space!,” MakeMyTrip said in a post
on X social media.
